Why does it seem that oldies radio stations have changed their music?

Every time I tune into the local oldies station all I ever hear now is 70’s or motown. I may be 22, but I really do not consider 70’s to be oldies, maybe retro, but not oldies.
And I have nothing against motown, but they play it so much that they have ruined it for me. What happened to the different types of 50’s and 60’s music that used to be played on the oldies station? Is music before the 70’s considered too old now?

I guess that’s what happens as years pass – oldies become ancient and the next decade takes over. I’d log yourself into an online radio station that plays the music you’re looking for.

My local oldies station used to play 50s then 60s as the oldest music. When I asked them, they said oldies are in the 20-40 year range. Anything older is too old. They seem to have extended that to about 45 years. Otherwise, they’d lose the Beatles, Beach Boys, and Doors.
