Thank you!

Radio K is the best for college rock, but only relatively strong at 770 AM, and the AM signal gets turned off at night. Seriously. Its (REALLY weak) FM repeaters are 100.7 FM and 106.5 FM.

KQRS (92.5 FM) is the big classic rock station.

93X (93.7) will put on some good heavy stuff.

Jack FM (104.1) is interesting, as it’ll seemingly play ANYTHING.

Finally, for oldies, theres Kool 108 (107.9).

When you hear the oldies on the radio, is there a certain song that brings back a particular memory? Or maybe a collection of songs that define an era? Are you magically transported back to a time when you were innocent and people didn’t have to lock their doors?

I am fascinated by the couples I see at an oldies concert. They sing, hold hands or clap to the beat. They look at each other with a sparkle in their eyes and you just know they see each other as teens or young adults. They remember why they fell in love. If I squint, I can see them as young. I hope my wife can see me as I once was, not as I am now. It’s odd, almost 30 years and she hasn’t age at all…

What a great answer to your own question. It is absolutely amazing to me how vivid the memories are when I hear certain songs. I used to roller skate every weekend when I was in junior high. I hear songs like The Doobie Brothers "China Grove" or Steve Miller Band’s The Joker, I am immediately right there with all of my friends skating and laughing and flirting. It was an absolute blast and we did that pretty regularly for almost two years.

On another note, I lost my dad to cancer almost 10 years ago. I am from a very musical family with both of my parents involved in choral singing as well as barbershop. I majored in music and that is what my undergraduate degree is in. But I digress…..my daddy is one of the key people who allowed me to learn about and love music so much. We actually have reel to reel tapes of me at age three singing with my dad playing guitar. I love to hear Simon and Garfunkel, Chet Atkins, Harry Belafonte…..all the artists that he loved the most. I have wonderful, loving and fond memories of a remarkable man when I put on that music. It is a great way for me to remember him in a big way, whenever I can. I know that my mom feels the same way about the music. It’s quite a lovely thing for both of us.

I am currently dating a wonderful man who is my age. This is the first time that I have been with someone who adores the same music that I do because we both grew up with it. It is so much fun to reminisce and talk about the bands of our youth. We learn from each other and listen to music together all the time. It is a very special part of our relationship.

Your question and exploring my answer to it has made me smile and feel very warm. Thanks for that.

Not one Bay Area radio station plays ’50s and ’60s music anymore. All we get is Country, Hip-Hop, or Led Zepplin.

101.9FM used to play oldies 5 years ago. First, they turned country, and now it’s all Rap.

99.7FM used to play oldies like 2 years ago. All they play now is Hip-Hop and Rap.

There is not one station that plays the oldies. Don’t we have variety anymore? Not everyone listens to that ghetto s.h.i.t.

It’s been years since I’ve heard a Beatles song on the radio.

Funny. I just answered a question from a young lady complaining she was bored because all she could get in her small town was oldies ;<)

Ah, Frisco – The Bay City and Waaaaay too hip for oldies anymore.

In the Bay area (depending if you are SF, SJ or out east), keep your ears on KLLC-FM 97.3; KITS-FM 105.3; KMVQ-FM 99.7. They are CBS. Big management shake-up and maybe a format change for you. One of them might make the change. I would think with the formats on air in NY and LA, SF might be right for the new CBS oldies format.

In San Jose, KUFX 98.5 is classic rock (code for Hippie Music ;<)

Out east there are some smaller FM stations you’ll have to twist around for.

I understand your frustration, but mind the mouth, there are kiddies about.

Good luck.

I tried 104.9 CFUN oldies. However, I just am not a big fan of this station. They seem to be a little too "flashy" with their hosts and on-air spots.

Are there any other good oldies radio station in Vancouver to listen to?

I listen in the car, so no internet radio please!
97.3fm Seattle swiched to talk.

When I used to live in Vancouver I listened to Classic Rock 101 a lot.

They might, but you wouldn’t know until you ask them, try looking around their website, and see if you can get a name and phone # to contact. Now please don’t be surpised if they might be too busy to talk to you, but like I said you have to call them and ask. Like see if you can find a program director, or somebody in mangement.

In Vancouver, British Columbia we have a couple good stations.

All Time Favorites CISL 650 (my personal favorite)

At this station they have almost Triple the amount of songs to play while other stations have a relative small amount of songs to work with. Also, they always take your request, everything from the Ink spots to Elvis, and from Gordon Lightfoot, to the Guess Who.

http://www.am650radio.com/

Fun FM / CKCL 104.9

I personally don’t really care to much for this one, I find some of the hosts pretty annoying, however I do listen if CISL has a talk program or something

http://www.1049greatesthits.com/

KIXI Am880

This is a seattle station (the signal isn’t usually very good, however they play some good swing from the good ole 50’s) they also play to many commercials, but I dont mind to much.

http://www.kixi.com/

What about your areas stations

Hi Wave FM 96, but it;s in spain and i guess you’re not. Plays great music from 50’s till now. Starting 6 in the evening it plays 60’s,& 7 70’s etc. Not sure of www. but is something like www.wavefm.com.
Here in Spain there a lot of stations playing good music(classic songs) but try this one first.

That station isn’t around anymore sadly, but I remember it fondly and would like to know if anyone else out there that remembers that station, and if so, I would like for us all to join the group "Bring Oldies/Classic Hits BACK to the airwaves in Greenville/Spartanburg!" on Facebook. Someone please answer!!!
i know that My 102.5 and WROQ 101 play "oldies" i am referring specifically to the "oldies 106.3" station, and i also am aware that it is now a women’s talk station.

That frequecy is now called WYRD and it’s a talk station out of Simpsonville.

102.5 and 101.1 both play classic rock-type music and 103.3 calls themselves "oldies" which may be just what you’re looking for.
