My local radio station started playing Christmas music a couple weeks ago, meaning almost the beginning of November! The like to get us into the Christmas spirit early!

one of our radio stations has been playing Christmas music since before Halloween but usually the day after Thanksgiving to get everyone in the shopping mood.

Why doesnt my truck receive fm radio signal?

Posted by admin on March 29th, 2010 and filed under fm radio | 3 Comments »

I have a 96 dodge ram.

My radio doesn’t work well. I tune in to the FM stations and nothing happens. There’s no sound at all, only static. The AM stations work well, no problem at all.

So what could be the problem?
Do I need a new antenna or is the wiring bad?

my dad had a 95 ram and he had the same thing happen
we had to get a new radio

i called the dodge dealer in town
he said it was the crystals in the raido went bad

the dodge dealer said they was having
problems with dodge radio

so yes you need a new radio

What is that song that they just played on the radio? (oldies station, possibly Tom Kent Show)?

Posted by admin on March 29th, 2010 and filed under oldies radio | 1 Comment »

I just caught the end of a song and I’d really like to know what it was. I’m listening to Cool 92.9 in the Mid Hudson Valley, but I think that this might be the nationwide show with Tom Kent. It was played at around 10:45. The song played immediately after it was Mrs. Robinson by Paul Simon. I only caught the last 30 seconds but it was mainly just drums and long sustained horns outlining the harmonic motion. The vocals were just doing something rhythmic that sounded great with it. Every few bars everything would drop out except for the vocals (multiple voices) and they would do a nice little harmony. I pray that somebody was listening and now reads this because I’d love to know what this song is. Unfortunately there were no lyrics to identify it by. Even if you didn’t hear it, feel free to posit a guess based on my description (I know it’s a long shot, but I’m that desparate…).
I did as you said (I doubted I would get to talk to him as it is a nationwide show) and did get a song name. Unfortunately the recording of this song that I have is very different from what I heard on the radio. You get best answer for at least giving some good advice.

No clue, sorry. Try calling the station to find out the name of it. It shouldn’t be hard for them to look back through their playlist considering the amount of detail you have.

Can you find free online radio broadcast of football games?

I want to watch the Jets take on the Saints. Unfortunately I live 60 miles from Buffalo so the only game that will be on is the Bills, Dolphins game. Who wants to watch that? Not me. I don’t have an AM radio, is there any live audio of games online?

Will live, hosted radio programming (over the airwaves) become a thing of the past in near future?

Posted by admin on March 29th, 2010 and filed under live radio | 3 Comments »

People more and more get their music from live streams on the internet, and from things like Serius Satalite.

And people also download music (whether legally or illegally) all the time.

So where does this leave real, traditional AM/FM radio?

Ouch! In a word: No. Not the NEAR future

It will take a while. and it won’t be from the things you mention. Mostly radio will kill itself, especially if it doesn’t go back to a more traditional local approach. Plus there’ll be some help from newer technology – both bad and good for radio. Specifically Wi-Max and stuff we don’t even know about yet.

Currently radio is taking steps (highly controversial) to limit their financial losses so they can remain valid as investments. Voice-tracking from distant regional studios, less money for promotion, lower salaries and other things are being done to curb costs… at the expense of the employees and stockholders.

Don’t forget talk in its various forms and rest assured radio is doing all it can to come up with newer, more exciting methods of programming (podcasting is an example as is a more developed web presence).

Though down, radio isn’t down for the count – yet.

How much does a promotion assistant for a radio station make?

Posted by admin on March 29th, 2010 and filed under radio station | 1 Comment »

A girl I know works as a promotion assistant for a radio station and wanted to recommend me a job for that same position as well and she said she makes about $25 an hour. Does this sound right? I thought that radio station jobs do not pay well.
Because radio station jobs seem like they don’t pay well my POINT of this question was to ask if anyone else who is in the industry or knows about it can tell me if getting paid 25 dollars an hour to start sounds reasonable. Thank you so much!

Any job in entertainment will be hard to get. Starting out you will be paid little more than minimum especially at a small station.

How can I pick up radio stations on my Police Scanner?

Posted by admin on March 29th, 2010 and filed under radio stations | 3 Comments »

I have a Radio Shack Pro-2018 scanner, and I was wondering if, and how I could pick up radio stations on it.
Where could I find a list of of conversions? Or is it simple, like if I want 107.7 then I put 107,700 in my scanner?

You want to listen to an FM broadcast station (like KABC hits 95)?
Forget it unless the scanner was specifically designed for this (I’ve not seen one that was). Why?

A police scanner is meant (primarily) to receive FM signals with a 5 KHz deviation, some (especially older ones) will accept up to a 15 KHz deviation. Anything more and the discriminator (the circuit that retrieves the audio from the signal) will clip and distort.

An FM broadcast station uses a 75 KHz deviation, impossible to receive on the scanner because it saturates the detector causing clipping and distortion, also the filter in the scanner would not pass the signal thru when it was being modulated because it would be constantly going outside the passband of the filter.

It would be the equivalent of turning your hearing aid up all the way and then standing directly in front of the speaker at a rock concert. It is sure to be loud but so distorted you wont understand a thing.

No harm in trying I suppose. Instead of programming in something like 155.805 for the local PD, you would put in 105.700 for FM 105.7 but I’ll bet that the scanner will return an error if you do.

WHERE can I find an online LIVE JAPANESE streaming radio station?

Posted by admin on March 29th, 2010 and filed under streaming radio | 3 Comments »

Anywhere, preferably Tokyo as I’m going there in two months and I’m getting my ear ready for it. I DO NOT want Japan a radio, I want an actual radio station in Japan. Thanks a lot if you can help!!

According to the Japanese law, the live streaming service through the internet by the NHK (public broadcaster) or any commercial broadcaster is prohibited. However, such service by broadcasters for local community is allowed, because their output is so small that there is considerable blind spot within the service area.

The following URL is the link to such radio stations. Some of them offer programs around the clock, so you can listen to it regardless to the time difference.

There are no stations in the Metropolis of Tokyo, however, as the Saitama and Kanagawa prefectures are located in the Metropolitan area, you may access the information of Tokyo from the stations there.

Click the white triangle in the orange circle, and enjoy it.
