Whats the difference between radio edition and normal edition in music?

Posted by admin on March 31st, 2010 and filed under radio | 2 Comments »

I want to buy a cd with my favorite song on it but it says its a radio edition and i don’t know if i should get it because i don’t know if there’s a difference between a radio edition or a normal version.
Is there a difference and if so what is it?

Radio versions are edited for language and (less commonly) for length.

How many AM and FM radio stations are in the United States?

Posted by admin on March 31st, 2010 and filed under fm radio | 6 Comments »

I’m looking for 2 numbers – the # of FM radio stations and the # of AM radio stations in the US. Also if possible, let me know your source. Thank you!!

Alright
Assuming that every MAJOR city in the U.S (which there is alot) has say 8 popular FM stations.
Assuming that every smaller city in the U.S. (which there is alot) has 3 popular FM stations.
Assuming that every town in the U.S. (which there is alot) has 1 popular FM station

Assuming that every MAJOR city in the U.S (which there is alot) has 10 popular AM stations.
Assuming that every smaller city in the U.S. (which there is alot) has 5 popular FM stations.
Assuming that every town in the U.S. (which there is alot) has 5 popular FM station. Towns get 5 because there seems to be a high demand for AM radio for farmers because AM does travel farther than FM.

So now we go to a map and count the number of Major cities, small cities, and towns in the U.S.

….

Alright, got it. So now we assume populations:
major City > 300,000 people
10,000<small city<300,000 people
1<town<10,000

So now we got:
Major Cities: 58
Small Cities: 2626
Towns: 16745

So now we multiply our terms:
And we get

25 087 FM Stations
97 435 AM Stations

With an error of about +/- 5000 stations lol. But I believe these are good assumptions.

What songs were played on the Oldies radio stations in 1990?

Posted by admin on March 31st, 2010 and filed under oldies radio | 4 Comments »

When I was little (around 1990), my mom played oldies music (she was born in ‘57) and I grew up loving the oldies she played and the 60s/70s rock my dad played (the Beatles, Hendrix, Iron Butterfly, the Doors, etc). I need someone to jog my memory!! I’m pregnant with my first child and have been keeping earphones on my belly for the baby to listen to music. What are some good oldies tunes I may be overlooking?
Thanks!!
Edit: By oldies, I mean stuff like California Dreamin’ by the Mamas and the Papas, Crimson and Clover by ?, Runaway by Del Shannon, songs along that line. Thanks!

Elton John, Marc Bolan, Bread, Air Supply, Queen, Steve Miller Band, Beach Boys, The Shadows, Cliff Richard, Little Richard, Bill Hayley & The Comets, Elvis, Eddie Cochrane…
I could carry on, but that lot should keep you going for a while.
Best of luck with your bundle of joy.

What is a good age to start a radio station and where are some good locations?

Posted by admin on March 31st, 2010 and filed under radio station | 1 Comment »

I have recently become interestied in starting a radio station but i wish to know a good age to start and some good places, also i wish to know how to become an offical radio station and get the items needed to start one.

You need an FCC license first. Current penalties for operating a radio station without a license are anywhere from 1.80 per day to 10,000 dollars per day.

You need a radio tower too. That will cost you quite a bit. Im not sure how much, but i know just the warning signs you have to put on it cost about 400 dollars for all of them. The tower Im guessing will cost about 200,000 dollars (and im getting this because this is what i heard it cost to build a tower in the domincan republic. Actually now that i think about it, it will probably cost more than 200k since labor is cheaper there. If you decide to run off the AM stations, im sure its considerably cheaper and less expensive.
