What is the difference between satallite radio and HD radio?

Posted by admin on February 28th, 2010 and filed under radio | 1 Comment »

For his birthday, I would like to buy my boyfriend one of these two types of radio for his car, but what is the difference? What is better? I think he would enjoy the different radio stations not available on regular radio, can I get that on both? I am electronically "dumb" and would appreciate any advice from the savvy.

Satellite radio requires a monthly subscription fee. There are two competing formats , Sirius and another one.

HD radio is over-the-air free digital radio. You get local stations.

So, satellite has more channels, but you pay for it.

How do i make my music radio friendly?

I have a radio show on my college’s radio station. the problem is my music isn’t "radio friendly". I was wondering if there’s a way to censor my music for airplay?

Most music is released in both censored and uncensored versions. You’ll need to get the the uncensored versions to play. You could also bleep out and censor your songs yourself if the radio station has a "cart machine."

What’s happened to "oldies" radio?

Posted by admin on February 28th, 2010 and filed under oldies radio | 16 Comments »

The oldies radio station that I loved to listen to oldies on, used to be called "KONO 101 – Good Time Oldies", now they’re "KONO 101 – The Greatest Hits of the 60’s and 70’s". I don’t think they even refer to themselves as an "oldies" station anymore. It seems that they don’t play any 50’s/early 60’s music as they did up until 2000 – Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Fats Domino, doo wop music, etc. Is this a trend around the "oldies" radio stations in the U.S.? It seems that the "real oldies", music from 1955-1963, are dying out on the radio. I only hear 1964 and up now, I think they play up to 1975 or so. With the 70’s being the worst decade for music, it’s pretty lame to hear that stuff rather than that good time rock ‘n roll.

Stations play the sort of music the ad sponsors will pay money to have played. So either they are too old or too young!

I want to start an internet radio station. I need to find hosting companies that host streaming audio?

Posted by admin on February 28th, 2010 and filed under internet radio | 3 Comments »

I want to start and internet radio station and a lot of hosting companies do not host streaming audio. I went to one that did and found that their customer service lacks tact and patience. I have never tried anything like this before and the program I want to use for the streaming audio needs 50 GB bandwidth. I found with my old hosting company has more than enough bandwidth but does not host streaming audio or video. Any suggestions?

try with hostgator

I have several websites that I want to be able to broadcast live radio over. I need someones opinion as to which is the best and cheapest way to go about it. Thanks.

Nullsoft Shoutcast is the standard, I guess you could make a module that plays a shoutcast stream with flash or perl.

Is streaming radio count as a download from ISPs?

Posted by admin on February 28th, 2010 and filed under streaming radio | 4 Comments »

My ISP (Canadian) just started implementing a download cap and I’m not sure if streaming videos or radio would add to my download quota.

"Download" means the transfer a copy of the data from another computer onto your computer.
That’s ANY kind of data that goes through your ISP connection to you computer.
That includes not only specific archived files, but web sites, images, network communications, email, chats, and any kind of streaming data.
It’s all data.
